Before FUNK Fizzled Out
While my peers remember the Motion Signature assignment as their first in Advanced AE, I'd insist it was my second. I had never actually taken the
prerequisite AE class during my time at HTC, instead bolting ahead to Advanced AE after completing an entry assignment to skip ahead. While that entry assignment wasn't portfolio-worthy, it was enough to prove I could keep up with the class and make this.
Around this same time I was attending a Portfolio Production class focused on personal branding, so my first shot at this I adorned the name FUNK. Originally the "K" was intended resemble a crown and allude to aspirations of power and dominion over my work; at the time I found this decision inspired by English graffiti artist King Robbo, and One Piece's own King of the Pirates.
Eventually I did have to come up with some design, and one that was flashy enough to grab attention, so instead of a crown I went with an explosion, and really tried to hit the point home with my first instance using impact frames.

Alienated
In the end the spark of FUNK Fizzled Out, I'd find that the term didn't fit well with the Y2K aesthetic I was shooting for with this logo and started feeling alienated by my choice of branding, as if I had to keep up some groovy performance to fulfill the name's surface level implications. From a young age I've always had extraterrestrials and the greater cosmos on my mind, though what used to be an unsettling fear of the unknown has grown into something quite relatable and awe inspiring for me.
